What is colostrum?

First milk: nature’s very first food

Colostrum is the first milk mammals produce immediately after giving birth. In cattle it is traditionally called beestings. It differs clearly from ordinary milk: it is thicker, more yellow and naturally contains considerably more protein, immunoglobulins, lactoferrin and growth factors. After a few days, the cow switches to normal milk.

Our colostrum comes from grass-fed organic cattle in Estonia and is only collected once the calf has been fed. It is then gently freeze-dried and filled into capsules without additives. This keeps the first milk in its natural composition, conveniently dosed and neutral in taste.

Information about Bovine Colostrum Capsules – Organic Grass-Fed Colostrum

About the product

Colostrum has been regarded as a special natural product for generations. It is not a formula put together in a lab, but exactly the composition nature intended for the start of life. Our bovine colostrum capsules contain pure colostrum from grass-fed organic cattle, freeze-dried and encapsulated in beef gelatine. Whether you are searching for colostrum capsules, a colostrum supplement or beestings: it is always the same product.

What is in colostrum? The natural components of first milk

  • Immunoglobulins: Colostrum naturally contains immunoglobulins, i.e. antibodies, above all IgG. In the calf, they are a central part of its first nourishment in the first days of life.
  • Lactoferrin: An iron-binding milk protein found in colostrum in a much higher concentration than in mature milk.
  • Growth factors: Colostrum contains natural growth factors that the calf receives for its development in the first days.
  • Proteins and other components: In addition, there are milk proteins, amino acids and the natural vitamins and minerals of milk.

All these components are present in colostrum in their natural combination. We do not isolate or add anything.

Colostrum, beestings, first milk: one milk, many names

Colostrum is the Latin technical term. On farms it has traditionally been called beestings, and in everyday language it is often simply called first milk. All these names mean the same thing: the cow’s first milk after the birth of the calf.

Fairly sourced: the calf comes first

When it comes to sourcing, animal welfare comes first for us. Only the surplus colostrum left over after the newborn calf has been fed is used. The calf always gets what it needs first. Only then is the remaining first milk processed further.

Why freeze-dried?

Many colostrum powders are spray-dried, i.e. with hot air. We rely on freeze-drying: the water is removed from the colostrum at very low temperatures, without heating it. This largely preserves the sensitive proteins and natural components. The result is a fine, long-lasting powder that we fill directly into capsules.

Quality and purity from organic pasture farming

Our bovine colostrum comes from grass-fed organic cattle in Estonia, kept under organic guidelines. Each capsule contains only freeze-dried colostrum, with no anti-caking agents, fillers, preservatives or flavourings. The capsule shell is made of beef gelatine. As an EU organic product, the colostrum is subject to regular quality controls, and we also have it lab-tested (see lab analyses and certificates).

Who are colostrum capsules for?

Colostrum capsules are for anyone who prefers an original animal-based natural product to isolated single substances. Many people make colostrum a fixed part of their daily routine, whether around sport, in an active everyday life or as part of a nose-to-tail diet. As colostrum is a dairy product, it is not suitable for people with a milk protein allergy or for a vegan diet.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is colostrum?

Colostrum, also called beestings or first milk, is the milk mammals produce in the first hours after giving birth. It is richer than normal milk and naturally contains immunoglobulins, lactoferrin and growth factors. Our colostrum comes from grass-fed organic cattle.

Is beestings the same as colostrum?

Yes. Beestings is the traditional English farm term for colostrum. Colostrum, beestings and first milk all mean the cow’s first milk after the calf is born.

What is your colostrum made of?

Made from 100% freeze-dried bovine colostrum from grass-fed organic pasture-raised cattle. It naturally contains immunoglobulins (approx. 30% IgG), lactoferrin, and growth factors. No additives, no fillers. The capsule shell is made from bovine gelatin.

How do I take the colostrum capsules?

Take 6 capsules throughout the day with meals—not on an empty stomach. One container with 180 capsules lasts for approximately 30 days.

Where does your bovine colostrum come from?

From grass-fed organic pasture cattle raised in species-appropriate conditions. Only surplus colostrum left over after feeding the calf is used.

Does colostrum contain lactose?

Yes, as a natural dairy product, colostrum naturally contains milk components, including lactose. This product is not suitable for people with a known milk protein allergy.

Is the product suitable for vegetarians or vegans?

No. Colostrum is an animal-derived natural product, and the capsule shell is made from bovine gelatin.

How should I store the capsules?

Keep closed, dry, and at a maximum of room temperature, out of reach of children.
