Vitamin C from the fruit

What is acerola?

Acerola (Malpighia emarginata, often also called Malpighia glabra) is a shrub native to Central and South America. Its cherry-sized red fruits are also known as Barbados cherry or West Indian cherry. They are among the fruits with the highest natural vitamin C content and contain many times more than citrus fruits.

Fresh acerola cherries spoil quickly, so for food supplements they are processed into an extract and dried. Our capsules contain freeze-dried acerola extract: 2160 mg per daily dose, providing 367 mg of vitamin C.

Information about Vitamin C Capsules – natural acerola vitamin C, high strength

About the product

Acerola cherry vitamin C

The acerola cherry comes from Central and South America and contains many times the vitamin C of citrus fruits. Because the fresh fruits spoil quickly, they are processed into an extract and freeze-dried. That very extract is what goes into our vitamin C capsules.

What the daily dose provides

Three capsules contain 2160 mg of acerola extract with 367 mg of vitamin C. That is 459% of the reference intake of 80 mg and considerably more than the recommended daily intake for adults.

What vitamin C does in the body

Vitamin C contributes to normal function of the immune system, to normal collagen formation for the normal function of blood vessels, bones, cartilage, gums, skin and teeth, and to normal energy-yielding metabolism. It contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Vitamin C also increases iron absorption.

A natural vitamin C supplement with a short ingredient list

Besides the acerola extract, each capsule contains only the glazing agent hydroxypropyl cellulose. Both ingredients are of plant origin, so the capsules are suitable for a vegan diet. One tub of 90 capsules lasts 30 days.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Natural vs synthetic vitamin C: is acerola better?

Chemically, vitamin C is always ascorbic acid, whether it comes from a fruit or a factory. The difference lies in the source: acerola extract comes from the fruit, while synthetic vitamin C is produced industrially from glucose. If you prefer vitamin C from a fruit, acerola is the choice for you.

How much vitamin C does one capsule contain?

One capsule contains around 122 mg of vitamin C. The daily dose of three capsules provides 367 mg, which is 459% of the reference intake of 80 mg.

What is the best time to take vitamin C capsules?

Take 3 capsules a day with plenty of liquid, either with a meal or spread over the day.

How much vitamin C per day do I need?

For adults, the nutrition societies of Germany, Austria and Switzerland (D-A-CH) recommend 110 mg a day for men and 95 mg for women. Pregnant women need 10 mg more, breastfeeding women 60 mg more. The nutrient reference value (NRV) used for labelling is 80 mg.

Can you take too much vitamin C?

Vitamin C is water-soluble and the body excretes any excess. Very high amounts in the gram range can, however, cause gastrointestinal discomfort. Stick to the recommended daily dose of three capsules.

What is acerola and why use it for vitamin C?

The acerola cherry is one of the fruits with the highest natural vitamin C content. This makes it possible to fit a relevant amount of vitamin C from the fruit into just a few capsules.

Are the acerola capsules vegan?

Yes. The capsules contain acerola extract and the glazing agent hydroxypropyl cellulose, neither of which contains any animal ingredients.

How long does one tub last?

One tub contains 90 capsules. At 3 capsules a day, it lasts 30 days.
